Report of school events 2002-3
This has been a very interesting and busy year for the children with a wide range of additional curriculum related activities and school trips.
A wide range of workshops and events have been held during the course of the year art and creative writing, science and drama, dance, team building, citizenship lessons (with a visit to the school from the Community Beat Officer as part of on-going citizenship education), body exhibition, circus science, technology challenge and a hairdressing show.
Red Nose Day in February was a great success and the children were given the opportunity to attend school dressed as a book character Miss Hardbroom (Worst Witch) even appeared as Headteacher for the day. Staff arranged a series of fun book related activities during the day and a sponsored read was held to raise funds for Comic Relief. Red Nose biscuits and a school comic written by some of the children were sold a fantastic sum of £925.74 was raised.
In May the children were encouraged to walk to school safely which hopefully reinforced the benefits of exercise.
In June we had a Bounce for Books with games activities in the afternoon for all the children this event raised £690.00 for the new library area.
Year 5 children took part in cycling proficiency lessons in June.
The sun shone on us for Sports Day in July the children went round a circuit containing five zones they competed in their year groups against children of a similar ability and accrued points for their houses Ruby, Gold, Emerald and Sapphire. Gold house was the overall winner.
Year 6 worked very hard preparing for their Games Afternoon and their end of term production, Moments in Time.
Art Week arrived in July during this week the children were given the experience and freedom of being able to express themselves through many different activities and media painting, mask making, mosaic, weaving, clay, tie dye finished work was then reproduced and displayed throughout the school. Visiting artists from Barnet College worked on a large scale project, the new school logo, which now flies proudly in the reception area.
The Trojan Horse theatre group visited the school and performed for the children.
Our musicians and choir gave an impressive performance at the summer concert with a very good repertoire which was enjoyed by all. Our athletics, cricket, football, netball and rounders teams have competed against other local schools and all have played very well. Year 2 also received free tennis tuition from the Potters Bar Lawn Tennis Club.
Go wild at Wroxham our project aimed at improving our pond area, designing a sensory garden and creating a woodland story circle is progressing with the building of a pergola, painting and planting. However, some work has been delayed by the discovery of a rare Great Crested Newt.
We would like to extend our thanks to all the staff and everyone involved with The Wroxham School for helping to give all the children a very rich and varied year. Also, well done to all the children at The Wroxham School.
